About the Primer (an ebook)

The ebook Developing an Analytic Strategy: A Primer is about 150 pages long and should be useful for anyone developing an AI or analytic strategy. It is designed to be self contained and provides short introductions to both analytics and to strategy.

The Primer reviews seven standard strategy tools and frameworks and then explains how to adapt them so they can be used to develop an analytics or AI strategy for you company. The tools and frameworks covered include: analytic SWOT, Analytic Ansoff Matrix, Porter’s Five Forces, Blue Ocean Analysis, the Analytic Experience Curve, and PESTEL analysis.

The primer also covers specialized tools and frameworks to support analytic strategy, including the Analytic Diamond and the Analytic Value Chain.

About the Author

  • Bob has been a thought leader in data science and analytics for over 25 years and has founded or co-founded three companies in analytics and predictive modeling.
  • He founded Analytic Strategy Partners LLC in 2016 and is the Managing Partner.
  • From 2002-2015, he was the Founder and Managing Partner of Open Data Group, which was one of the pioneers scaling predictive analytics, machine learning and AI to large datasets and helping companies develop and deploy innovative analytic solutions and strategies.
  • In 1996, he founded Magnify, Inc. and was its CEO until 2001. Magnify provided predictive analytics to the financial services industry and is now part of the Lexis-Nexis (RELX Group).
  • Bob is also a faculty member at the University of Chicago, where he is the Frederick H. Rawson Distinguished Service Professor of Medicine and Computer Science and the Jim and Karen Frank Director of the Center for Translational Data Science. As a both a practitioner of analytics, machine learning, and AI and as researcher and teacher working in the field, he brings a perspective to the Primer that grounds practical and timely advice with a historical understanding of what has actually proven useful and practical over time.
  • Finally, Bob has provided advice to US government agencies and not for profits in analytics, machine learning and AI and has an understanding of some of the practical issues faced by large agencies.
